The first campaigns of the Consumer Protection Agency (CPA) were launched on Thursday, following the decision of PM Mostafa Madbouly, to assign all regulatory agencies to follow up on announcing prices and obliging outlets to comply with them.

Responsible sources at the Consumer Protection Agency said that more than 20 cars belonging to the Consumer Protection Agency roam the streets and markets of the Greater Cairo region, in addition to cars belonging to other branches that were used to cover campaigns on the streets.

The sources added that Ayman Hossam El-Din issued directives to the directors of the agency’s branches in the governorates to pass through and go to the markets to follow up on the merchants’ announcement of prices in a clear place for consumers, pointing out that the campaigns come in implementation of the Prime Minister’s directives.

The sources indicated that the necessary legal measures will be taken against the violating merchants in the event that the price is not declared on the commodity through the judicial control officers affiliated with the Consumer Protection Agency, which is at the head of the campaigns.

It emphasized that the campaigns are continuing by the agency throughout the day and hour until all merchants are committed to announcing the prices of commodities and not monopolizing them in order to sell them at prices more than their normal price, pointing out that the agency receives all complaints of citizens around the clock through the affiliated lines designated to receive complaints from citizens.

Yesterday, the agency’s role after the Council of Ministers agreed to extend the work of setting the price of white rice for another 3 months, in addition to announcing prices for commodities.

The agency developed a plan that includes 4 main axes for the coming period during its campaigns on the markets to monitor commodities, white rice and barley, namely: «Ensure that prices for all commodities are announced, in addition to following up on the sale of strategic commodities at the prices announced by the Prime Minister, as well as preventing monopoly and preventing withholding of commodities, as well as Monitoring the presence of food commodities in the markets.

According to the sources, “the device is striking with an iron fist against anyone who begged him to sell for more than the price specified in Prime Minister Resolution 166 of 2022, and to ensure that merchants do not withhold goods to raise their prices, in light of the President’s directives to stand by the Egyptian citizen against greed.” merchants and lift the burden off his shoulders.”

The Consumer Protection Agency was assigned to implement those decisions issued by the Prime Minister at the level of all branches of the agency in all governorates, in coordination with the concerned regulatory authorities.

In the event that merchants do not comply, the Consumer Protection Law will be applied, whose fine starts from EGP 10,000 and reaches EGP 2 million, taking into account the Prime Minister’s decision that raises the minimum fine to EGP 100,000 and the maximum to EGP 5 million, noting that it is not permissible reconciliation in these violations.
