A few days ago, several reports started warning the world of a near-future pandemic, naming it as "COVID-22." Although the World Health Organization (WHO) didn't issue any official details related to it, the forthcoming pandemic rose global concerns.

Here is all you need to know about COVID-22.

Until now, there is no virus called COVID-22, but, it is an expectation by one of ETH Zürich's professors Dr. Sai Reddy for the upcoming mutation of the Coronavirus in 2022.

In his studies, Reddy highlighted that the upcoming mutation of the virus is worse than the emerged COVID-19, and the process of vaccination would depend on several vaccines, alongside developing the recently-produced COVID-19 vaccines. The new mutation would be more transmissible than the currently emerged mutations.

On the other hand, several experts doubted the study, claiming the necessity of major mutations in the new pandemic to be named COVID-22.

Moreover, the current mutations of the virus which are called variants of interest by WHO such as Beta, Delta, Delta Plus, and Lambda were not named as COVID-20 or COVID-21.
