Italy's Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte decided to impose a curfew throughout the national territory from 22:00 (21:00 GMT) to 5:00 in order to counter the outbreak of the novel coronavirus, according to media reports on Wednesday.

The authorities have also taken a new set of measures such as closing shopping centers during the weekend, adopting distance education and closing museums.

Conte signed a decree Tuesday night, Wednesday, to impose curfews across the national territory at 22:00 (2100 GMT).

Other restrictions have also been imposed which are supposed to be revealed by Conte later on Wednesday and will apply until December 3, including the closure of shopping centers during the weekend.

Italy was the first country in Europe to be affected by the Covid-19 epidemic in February. It has recorded more than 39 thousand deaths from more than 750 thousand infections.

According to this new decree, the twenty regions of Italy will be pided, according to the media, into three sectors, green, orange and red, according to the severity of the epidemic situation.

Movement at this time is only possible for work or health reasons that must be justified. Schools are forced to switch to remote education and museums will be closed.

Shopping centers will also be closed during weekends or public holidays, and public transport will not be able to accept more than 50 percent of the passengers of their total capacity.
