The Latest approved COVID-19 drug Molnupiravir will be available in all Egyptian pharmacies soon, Al Ain reported on Saturday.

George Maher, the head of the marketing department at Egyptian drug maker Eva Pharma, highlighted that the firm is one of the earliest producers of Molnupiravir in the whole world.

The price of the 40-hard-capsule box will be around EGP 624 ($ 40), and it is the required dose for five days.

Patients will be required to have four capsules of the medicine in the day, and the same dose should be repeated at night.

Maher explained also that the medicine is now available at the pharmacies at public hospitals to make sure of its availability for those who really need it as this medicine is produced only in the US, and the UK, alongside Egypt.

Moreover, 25,000 boxes were produced, however, there is the essential material to produce another 150,000 doses.

The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) officially authorized Merck’s oral COVID-19 Treatment, Molnupiravir, last December.

It showed promising results, and they helped in preventing severe COVID-19 symptoms, and deaths.

The clinical trials also expressed that Merck succeeded in reducing the risk of Coronavirus’ symptoms, and related deaths by 30%, on the other hand, Pfizer showed better results with 90% in dropping COVID-19 risks.

Patrizia Cavazzoni, the director of FDA’s Center for Drug Evaluation and Research, said: “[It] is limited to situations where other FDA-authorized treatments for COVID-19 are inaccessible or are not clinically appropriate and will be a useful treatment option for some patients with COVID-19 at high risk of hospitalization or death.”
