A court judge suspended US Pop star Britney Spears' father from all the legal responsibilities and arrangements as her conservator after 12 years, BBC reported on Thursday.
Early this month, Jamie Spears, the father, asked a Los Angeles court to end the 13-year arrangement with the pop singer.
He has controlled his daughter’s affairs since she suffered a mental health breakdown in 2008.
In a court filing, Jamie Spears stated if his daughter wants to terminate the conservatorship and thinks she can handle her own life, then he believes she should get that chance.
The documents added that Britney Spears has recently demonstrated a level of independence that calls into question whether the establishment of conservatorship is required.
“She wants to be able to make decisions regarding her own medical care, deciding when, where, and how often to get therapy. She wants to control the money she has made from her career and spend it without supervision or oversight,” the filing added.
The pop star has been seeking for months to have her father removed as the overseer of her $60 million estate after learning that she could file to end the arrangement.
In June, the singer announced her intention to remove her father as her conservator after describing her controlled life in an open court.
The “Womanizer” singer delivered a bombshell testimony to the court, calling the conservatorship abusive and humiliating.
She also disclosed that her dad loved to control her, detailing that she had been drugged, forced to take birth control, and made to work against her will under the guardianship agreement.
