On Wednesday, Cairo Criminal court, headed by chancellor Wageh Hamza, decided to adjourn the first trial of three defendants in a case known in media as ‘Maadi girl‘.
The two main suspects in the case are charged with premeditated murder of the 24-year-old victim, whose name was Mariam.
The third suspect is charged with aiding and abetting the two others in committing the murder.
The three defendants were absent from their first court session, for security reasons.
Earlier this month, the victim was walking on a street in Maadi district where a person sitting next to a driver of a speeding minibus tried to snatch her bag.
Mariam tried to hold onto the bag, prompting the driver to swerve and slam her against a parked car. The driver then ran over Mariam with the microbus.
An investigation team received video footage for the incident, inspected the site of the incident, and examined the body of the victim, who sustained several wounds all over her body as a result of the accident.
Investigations proved that there was a girl in the company of the victim as the two friends were talking to each other shortly before the incident. The other girl ran in fear for her life.
The prosecution said that charges were based on testimonies of seven witnesses and confessions of the defendants.
