Cottonil Face Mask Banned Over Health Standards

Advertisements of the newly made Cottonil medical masks have been banned as the company failed to comply with the manufacturing controls and health standards that the product must meet, misleading consumers and violating the provisions of the protection law, according to Rady Abd EL Moaty, Chairman of Consumer Protection Agency (CPA).

Abd EL Moaty indicated in a statement on Wednesday that advertisements of the “Cottonil Mask” comes in violation of the provisions of the Consumer Protection Law No. 181 of 2018, which stipulates that the supplier shall adhere to the health and safety rules and quality standards and ensure that the consumer in his products in accordance with the specifications Egyptian standard.

Also, the executive regulations of the same law stipulated that the supplier or the advertiser is obliged to avoid any deceptive behavior, whenever this behavior focuses on the nature of the product or its characteristics or the expected results from its use, as well as the inadmissibility of advertising the products that require declaration by the authorities Competent without obtaining this permit.

Cottonil ads showed that the mask can be used in prevention against viruses and can be washed and used several times, and that it is not an anonymous product, but at the same time it did not display the specifications of the medical mask to the Egyptian General Authority for Specifications And quality in order to make sure that it complies with the Egyptian specifications and its suitability to prevent diseases and the possibility of washing them several times as mentioned in the announcement.

The CPA obligated Cottonil to pass the declaration until obtaining the approval of the Egyptian General Authority for Standards and Quality to the declared mask to ensure its suitability for use and compliance with health specifications, as well as providing the company with documents and licenses for manufacturing.

Moreover, Abd EL Moaty sent a message to companies to abide by the provisions of the law in all manufacturing operations or to announce various products and to commit to obtaining the necessary approvals before producing and selling any special product if a medical product compromises the health and safety of the consumer.

He called on traders, manufacturers and producers to abide by the technical, standard and health controls before producing and trading any product or commodity and obtaining the necessary approvals in advance from the competent authorities.
