Coronavirus: La Liga Suspended until Further Notice

La Liga and the Spanish soccer federation (RFEF) on Monday suspended all domestic sporting events in the country until further notice.

All sports events in Spain had been postponed on March 12 for two weeks because of the spread of coronavirus but was initially due to resume on April 3.

In a joint statement, the two bodies have agreed on suspending all the competitions, including La Liga,  until the Spanish government considered they could start again “without creating any health risk”.

“Both the RFEF and LaLiga wish to express our greatest public gratitude to all those who are dedicating their best efforts to provide essential services to the Spanish people,” the statement added.

The COVID-19 caused complete paralysis in all sporting events worldwide as it claimed the thousands  of people's lives in the world.

On Wednesday, March 11, WHO declared that the coronavirus, which is spreading around the world, a “global pandemic; however, it announced the novel COVID-19 is still “controllable”.

According to the organization, the number of the COVID-19 infections outside China has doubled in the past two weeks, and the number of countries hit by the epidemic has tripled.

“We are very concerned to achieve the alarming levels of the outbreak and its severity, as well as the alarming levels of inaction,” WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said at a press conference in Geneva.

“Now, COVID-19 can be categorized as a pandemic… we have never seen a pandemic spread due to the coronavirus,” Adhanom added.
