Coronavirus Claims 416,000 People, No. of Infected Globally in Millions

The number of deaths caused by the Coronavirus, "Covid-19", in the world exceeded 416 thousand people across the globe, meanwhile the number of infected people reached more than 7.36 million cases.

The data and figures collected by experts of "Johns Hopkins University", the United States of America (USA), showed today, Thursday, that the number of deaths from the Coronavirus increased by 4 thousand 924 deaths during the past 24 hours.

The number of the infected people around the world reached 7 million 360 thousand 239 cases.

There is an increase of 121 thousand and 628, compared to 120 thousand and 410 the previous day.

However, 3.54 million patients were recovered since the outbreak began late 2019.

According to Johns Hopkins University, the USA recorded the largest number of deaths which has reached 113,000 deaths until today, while there were 2 million 464 cases of caught the deadly virus.

Brazil recorded the second largest number of infections with the virus. The number of infected people exceeded 772 thousand, and the number of deaths reached about 40 thousand until June 11.

Russia is ranked third in terms of the number of infections, with more than 493 thousand confirmed cases, while the number of deaths did not exceed 6300 deaths so far.

Britain occupies the fourth place in terms of the number of deaths, which exceeded 41 thousand cases, while it recorded about 392 thousand cases.

According to the Worldometer website, the death rate from the Coronavirus is 53.8 cases per million people in the world.

On the other hand, the World Health Organization ( WHO) warns that Africa will see a steady increase in infections with the Coronavirus over the next period. The infections will still increase incessantly until a vaccine is developed. WHO affirms the necessity of imposing strong measures in the current proliferation hotspots, such as South Africa, Algeria and Cameroon.

Machidiso Moiti, WHO's Regional Director for Africa, said in a press release in Geneva on Thursday: That until we come up with an effective vaccine, I fear that we will likely have to coexist with a steady increase in the region.

The deadly virus sweeps fiercely throughout South Africa, Algeria and Cameroon. These countries should impose very strong public health and social space measures.

Yesterday, the death toll from the newly infected with the Coronavirus in the Africa exceeded the threshold of 200,000 confirmed cases, including 5,486 deaths.

  • Antonio Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations, has warned recently millions of people in Africa are threatened by extreme poverty, due to the Corona pandemic, calling for increasing international solidarity with this continent.He also called on the international community to provide assistance to African countries combating the destructive repercussions of the Corona pandemic.
