Hours ago, U.S. President-elect Joe Biden sent a message to Americans, amid a surge in Coronavirus cases in the United States, stressing the need to wear masks, keeping social distancing and limiting gatherings.

“Our country is in the middle of a dramatic spike in COVID-19 cases. Please wear a mask, keep social distancing, and limit the size of any groups. It’s our patriotic duty as Americans,” Biden tweeted.

On the other hand, the American authorities called on citizens to wear masks, and warned that they may be obliged to issue additional strict anti-coronavirus restrictions after registering a daily record number of coronavirus deaths, with a rate of two cases every minute.

Earlier, Biden promised a new nationwide strategy of wearing masks under official orders in some locations, including federal buildings and during interstate travel.

On Thursday, Biden urged Americans to mask up for 100 days as coronavirus surges, noting that he’d be happy to get inoculated in public to assuage any concerns about the vaccine’s efficacy and safety.

“On the first day I’m inaugurated, I’m going to ask the public for 100 days to mask,” Biden said in his interview with CNN’s Jake Tapper. “Just 100 days to mask, not forever, just 100 days. And I think we’ll see a significant reduction.”

“People have lost faith in the ability of the vaccine to work,” Biden added, affirming that “It matters what a president and the vice president do.”

Biden added that he met the Democratic and Republican state governors, stating that they need guidance and money to get over what is happening due to the virus.

The president-elect called for lawmakers on Capitol Hill to pass a coronavirus aid bill, expressing full support for a $900 billion compromise bill that a bipartisan group of lawmakers introduced this week.
