UK's COP26 President Alok Sharma met on Wednesday with Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, and senior officials to discuss the two countries’ shared ambition on the climate agenda.

The meeting was attended by Minister of Environment Yasmin Fouad, Deputy Foreign Minister Hamdi Sanad Loza, Ambassador and Director of Environment & Sustainable Development Mohamed Gad, and CBE Governor Tarek Amer.

Later this year, the UK is hosting COP26 in Glasgow, and this visit recognises Egypt as a key partner in the fight against climate change. Egypt is already a member of the COP26 Energy Transition Council, working to promote adaptation and resilience to climate change, and last month the UK, Egypt, and other countries announced the Adaptation Action Coalition.

Many countries across the world are already experiencing the impacts of climate change, from extreme weather, to floods, to cyclones. Without action, many more will experience significant disruption, devastating communities and livelihoods.

With support, countries and communities can adapt and build resilience to the impacts of climate change. Measures like early warning systems for storms, investing in flood drainage, and drought resistant crops are cost-effective, saving not just money, but lives and livelihoods.
