The United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP30) concluded on Saturday (22) in Belem, Brazil, with the approval of the Belem Package by 195 countries, accroding to TV BRICS.

During the event, 29 decisions were adopted on essential topics such as a just transition, adaptation financing, trade, gender, and technology, as reported by Brasil 247, a partner of TV BRICS.

Among the main achievements of the conference is the commitment to triple adaptation funding by 2035 and the creation of the Tropical Forests Forever Fund mechanism, which aims to support the preservation of tropical forests. In addition, 122 countries submitted their Nationally Determined Contributions, setting emission reduction targets for 2035.

The President of COP30, Andre Correa do Lago, emphasised that the conference should be seen as the beginning of a decade of change.

“The spirit we have built here does not end with the strike of the gavel. It remains in every governmental meeting, in every boardroom and trade union, in every classroom, laboratory, forest community, large city and coastal town,” he stated.

Marina Silva, Brazil’s Minister of the Environment and Climate Change, summarised the summit’s results during the final plenary session, highlighting the importance of recognising the participation of indigenous peoples, traditional communities and Afro-descendant groups in the just transition process.

“We have taken a significant step in recognising the role of indigenous peoples, traditional communities and Afro-descendant groups. The just transition has gained shape and voice,” she stressed.

The President of Brazil, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, expressed satisfaction with the success of COP30, highlighting the strengthening of multilateralism and the importance of the fight against fossil fuels.

The conference also reaffirmed the importance of financial initiatives and the creation of new structures to support countries vulnerable to climate change. A total of 59 voluntary indicators were approved to monitor progress on adaptation, covering sectors such as water, food, health, ecosystems and infrastructure.

The next steps include strengthening implementation mechanisms and intensifying international cooperation, with the aim of achieving the goals of the Paris Agreement.
