The Democratic Republic of Congo's Minister of Health, Roger Kamba, revealed that health authorities have identified 604 new suspected cases of monkeypox, with 8 confirmed during the 49th week of the outbreak.
Notably, no fatalities were reported during this period, a significant improvement from the 48th week when the mortality rate stood at 0.41%.
According to the minister's report, as cited by local media on Saturday, efforts to curb the spread of monkeypox have advanced with the launch of the second phase of the vaccination campaign. This phase targets healthcare zones where the first doses were administered.
Additionally, 349 inmates at "Engenga Prison," located in the Gemena health district of South Ubangi province, were vaccinated against monkeypox. This initiative reflects a continued commitment to controlling the outbreak and protecting vulnerable populations.
