The Republic of Congo has announced the inauguration of its first liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier, a significant step towards fulfilling the country's aspirations to expand its export capabilities.

Local media outlets reported that the availability of gas within the nation is expected to not only enhance local electricity supplies but also provide essential gas resources to other countries, marking a significant advancement in the burgeoning energy sector.

The launch of the first LNG carrier aligns with Congo's declared objective to become one of the world's leading exporters of liquefied natural gas, with a production capacity of one billion cubic meters per year.

Further driving the LNG production in the project is the arrival of a second LNG vessel with a capacity of 3.5 billion cubic meters, currently under construction and set to commence production this year.

This additional unit will be capable of storing over 180,000 cubic meters of liquefied natural gas, which will be utilized to meet domestic demand, thereby bolstering Congo's position in the global energy market.
