Colombian President Gustavo Petro issued a decree, on Sunday, prohibiting the government from exporting coal to Israel.
According to the document signed by President Gustavo Petro, Advisor Luis Gilberto Murillo, and the Ministers of Finance, Mines, and Commerce, this measure will take effect five days after its publication in the official gazette.
Decree No. 1047, dated August 14, 2024, enforces a ban on coal exports to Israel as a result of the ongoing severe conflict in the Gaza Strip.
President Petro had announced in May that Colombia would cut diplomatic ties with Israel, emphasizing that the world should not remain passive in the face of the events unfolding in Gaza.
