The Colombian government announced on Thursday that it will receive and provide medical care to Palestinian children injured in the ongoing conflict in Gaza.
This move underscores Colombia's vocal criticism of the Israeli war on Gaza.
Deputy Minister for Multilateral Affairs Elizabeth Taylor Jay announced in Stockholm during an official visit with President Gustavo Petro.
She stated, "We have decided to offer humanitarian support to Palestinian children who will travel with their families to Colombia for rehabilitation."
However, she did not specify the number of children or the logistics of their transport from Gaza.
This decision follows President Gustavo Petro's declaration in May to sever diplomatic ties with Israel, accusing Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's government of committing genocide against Palestinians.
In a bold stance, Petro also halted the purchase of Israeli-made weapons, despite Israel being a key supplier to Colombia's security forces.
Furthermore, Colombia has suspended its coal exports to Israel as the conflict continues, signaling its firm opposition to the ongoing violence.
