Coffee Prices Witness Dramatic Surge in 2025

Global coffee prices have surged dramatically in recent days, rising by more than 15% since the beginning of December 2025.

The spike comes as production of Arabica beans declines in Brazil and Colombia, the world’s two largest exporters of premium coffee.

In Brazil, production for the 2025/26 season is expected to reach around 65 million bags; however, the volume of high-quality Arabica may drop, while robusta beans are expected to see a slight increase, according to a recent report by the Brazilian Ministry of Agriculture cited by the Brazilian newspaper O Globo.

In Colombia, forecasts also point to a reduction in Arabica output following last year’s record harvest, adding further pressure to the global market.

Because of this supply shortage, global futures exchanges (ICE) have recorded a sharp decline in stockpiles, causing prices to climb rapidly.

Analysts warn that this upward trend could persist in the months ahead, directly affecting the cost of a daily cup of coffee in both cafés and homes.

Farmers have expressed concern over market volatility: while some are benefiting from higher prices, others are struggling to produce high-quality crops due to climate challenges such as droughts and sudden rainfall.

Consumers, meanwhile, are feeling the strain. Retail and café coffee prices have risen by 10–20% over the past month, according to reports from the International Coffee Organization.

This new reality highlights the fragility of the global supply chain and underscores the need for sustainable solutions to support farmers and stabilize coffee prices in the future.
