Coca-Cola’s bottling company in Belgium announced on Monday the recall of large quantities of its products in Europe due to elevated levels of chlorates.

The affected products include returnable bottles and cans of Coca-Cola, Sprite, Fanta, Fuze Tea, Minute Maid, Nalu, Royal Bliss, and Tropico, which have been circulating in Belgium, the Netherlands, the UK, Germany, France, and Luxembourg since late November.

Coca-Cola Europacific Partners Belgium confirmed the recall, stating that although a specific quantity could not be provided, it was evident that the recall involved a significant volume of products.

The company clarified that most of the affected items, which had not been sold, were removed from store shelves, and measures were ongoing to withdraw any remaining products from the market.

They also noted that they were in constant communication with the relevant authorities in each of the affected markets.

The company, which issued an apology for the inconvenience, urged customers not to consume the affected products. Consumers have been advised to return the items to the point of sale for a full refund.

The products in question are marked with production codes ranging from 328 GE to 338 GE. According to Coca-Cola, tests at their Ghent production facility, conducted as part of their regulatory compliance and monitoring procedures, identified the elevated chlorate levels in these products.
