Brigadier General Turki al-Malki, Spokesperson for the Arab Coalition, said the coalition's airstrikes over the previous 18 days prevented the Houthis from surging into Marib governorate's Abdiya district.
During the previous 96 hours, the coalition launched 118 attacks to protect civilians in Abdiya, according to Malki. He said that 15 Houthi militia military vehicles were destroyed and that over 400 militiamen were slain.
The spokesperson for the coalition urged the UN and other international organisations to fulfil their humanitarian obligations to the population in the area.
In parallel to requests by Yemeni activists and human rights organisations for an international intervention to remove the siege imposed on the area's population, who are deprived of food and medical supplies, the Houthi militia launched a savage attack on the district.
The Yemeni Teachers Syndicate had already declared that classes had been suspended in 18 schools in the besieged district, affecting more than 8,000 children.
