Climate Report Warns of Accelerating Global Warming in Austria Beyond Expectations

A new report by the Climate Protection Center has revealed that global warming in Austria is accelerating at a faster pace than previously projected.

The report shows a significant rise in temperatures in recent years, exceeding the projections outlined in the 2015 climate scenario report known as “ÖKS15”.

Researchers found that temperatures have increased by around 1°C within just a decade compared to the 1971–2000 reference period.

Overall, scientists estimate that the total temperature increase in Austria since measurements began has reached approximately 2.5°C, compared to a global average rise of about 1.1°C to 1.2°C.

According to the findings, a reduction in atmospheric particulate matter and improved air quality has contributed to faster warming trends.

The decrease in aerosols has led to increased solar radiation reaching the surface, intensifying temperature rises, particularly in the Alps region.

Researchers warn that these combined factors are accelerating climate change impacts in Austria, highlighting the need for urgent adaptation and mitigation measures.
