Oregon State Police reported that a person was shot dead on Saturday in Portland during clashes between anti-racism protesters and supporters of President Donald Trump.

Portland has been the center of repeated demonstrations and clashes against police violations in the United States since African-American George Floyd got ruthlessly suffocated under the knee of a white policeman last May.

The protest movement was revived when African-American Jacob Blake was seriously injured by police bullets in Kenosha, Wisconsin.

"France Press" quoted local media saying that a "convoy of hundreds of cars" driven by Trump supporters gathered in downtown Portland.

Still, Police have not determined whether the shots that killed a person were directly related to the protests.

Later, the police said in a statement that the shooting took place at 20:45 local time in the city center, indicating that an investigation had been opened to look into the crime.

The statement added that two policemen "heard the sound of shots from the neighborhood and found a victim who had been shot in the chest."
