Sudanese Armed Forces announced that clashes erupted with the Ethiopian army and armed militias supported by the Ethiopian army on the eastern border, across the Atbara River, leaving a Sudanese army commander killed, a military member missed, others wounded, in addition to other civilian victims.

The Sudanese Armed Forces Spokesman, Brig. Gen. Amir Mohammed Al-Hassan, said: "The Ethiopian militias, supported by the Ethiopian army, used to repeat the attacks on Sudanese territories and resources, and despite that, the Sudanese armed forces are still extending patience to complete the negotiation process aimed at putting an end to these criminal hostilities.”

In a statement on Thursday, Al-Hassan added: “On May 26th, troops belonging to the Ethiopian army were deployed around our forces camp in Alao (eastern Sudan),” pointing out that basing on joint meetings between the leaders of the two armies, it was agreed to withdraw the checkpoint of our forces in Alao inside the camp, hence the Ethiopian troops would withdraw its camp, so the troops were withdrawn from their deployment areas to the camps.

“A group of Ethiopian militias arrived at the eastern bank of the Atbara River to draw water from the river, so our forces clashed with them in the Al-Baraka area and prevented them from taking water, meanwhile clashes erupted between the two sides,” Al-Hassan noted.

He revealed that the clashes left an army commander “martyred” while 6 other personnel were wounded.

In addition, a child was killed, while three civilians were wounded.
