Italian Cultural Institute inaugurated the new edition of Cinema In Citta, a festival dedicated to new and classic Italian films, amid a large turnout of Italian film enthusiasts.
The event was attended by the Italian Ambassador to Cairo, Michele Quaroni, film critic Oscar Larussi, and the director of Italian Cultural Institute, Dr. Davide Scalmani.
In his opening remarks, Scalmani said: "Tonight we open the new edition of the Italian Cultural Institute Festival to launch its first edition of the 'Italian Cinema in Cairo', ten days of Italian film screenings 'Cinema in Città', which will run from May 28 to June 9."
He added: "Other recent films will be shown here in the coming days, in addition to a retrospective exhibition dedicated to one of our most beloved actors, Marcello Mastroianni, who was born a century ago. Mastroianni's films are scheduled to be shown at the Italian Cultural Institute in Zamalek."
"Italian cinema has transcended borders, challenged traditions, and captured the imagination of millions. Since their early days, Italian filmmakers were not afraid to experiment with different themes and genres. The main factor – the distinguishing factor – was and still is the artistic freedom that allowed them to express their unique perspective on society, politics, and culture," he continued.
Earlier, Italian Cultural Institute in Cairo announced that film screenings would be free of charge, and all that is required is to book through the official Facebook page. This will enable cinema-loving audiences to mark their calendars and get ready to be transported by the magic of Italian cinema, which all those involved in the event promise will be an unforgettable cinematic experience, providing a window into the heart and soul of Italian culture.
