The prestigious Cairo International Film Festival (CIFF) revealed the full schedule of the side events of the festival including "Cairo Industry Days." The events of the program will take place between 4 December and 7 December at Cairo Marriott Hotel.
The platform targets providing rising and independent artists with a number of significant lectures and sessions with a number of Cinema industry icons.
The Sessions
Starting with the sessions, "The Father of Scenario Adaptation, Sir Christopher Hampton" will be the first event of "Cairo Industry Days." It will take place on Friday 4 December at the Cairo Opera House at 12:45 pm.
It will introduce an open dialogue with the award-winning director and scriptwriter Sir Christopher Hampton. The session will be president by CIFF President Mohamed Hefzy.
Hampton will be honored and awarded the Golden Pyramid Prize for his lifetime achievement.
The celebrated TV presenter Raya Abirached will set two dialogues with Faten Hamama Prize Award winner Mona Zaki on 4 December at 2:30 pm at the Cairo Opera House.
The second interview by Abirached will be with the English film and stage actor Rufus Sewell on 5 December at the Cairo Opera House at 11 am.
Finally, there will be an open talk with the "Genious Farmer," the iconic Egyptian scriptwriter Wahid Hamed. He will be awarded the Golden Pyramid Prize for his lifetime achievement.
The talk will be presented by the famous Egyptian critic Tarek El Shenawy. It will be on 6 December at the Cairo Opera House at 2:30 pm.
The Lectures
The first lecture of "Cairo Industry Days" will be with the Palestinean director Hani Abu Saad, and the Egyptian director Marwan Hamed.
Its theme will be reviewing the directors' careers from their earliest steps to international fame. The session will be on 5 December at 12:45 pm at Cairo Opera House
"Your Guide to Best Literary Adaptations" will be presented by Eccho Rights executive director Fredrik AF Malmborg. It will be on 5 December at Cairo Mariotte hotel at 4 pm.
In cooperation with Netflix, the platform will organize a lecture entitled "Netflix Guide to Post Production Visual Impacts." It will be presented by Leo Di Wolf, Karim Boutros-Ghali, and Jailan Mekki.
It will be organized at the Cairo Marriott Hotel on 6 December at 11 am.
The iconic Russian director Alexander Sokurov, the head of the international jury, will be a guest of a lecture directed by the Managing director of Rezo Films International Laurent Danielou.
It will be on 7 December at 12:30 pm at the Cairo Opera House.
Also, on the same day, there is another lecture entitled "Natural Rebellion." It will at the Cairo Opera House at 4:30 pm.
The lecture will be instructed by celebrated Russian scriptwriter and filmmaker Andrei Konchalovsky and it will be presented by the blogger and journalist E. Nina Rothe.
Moreover, the activities of the platform including the Film Independent Creative Production Workshop and Cairo TV Pitch Forum in cooperation with the US Embassy in Cairo, Film Independent, and Middle East Media Initiative (MEMI). Those workshops will be virtual due to COVID-19 restrictions of traveling.
The upcoming edition of CIFF will take place between 2 and 10 December. The total of participated films is 84 films from 43 countries including 12 Red-Carpet film screenings.
He also added that the festival has signed the “50/50” agreement which targets increasing the percentage of females participating in the official festivals to be 50%, so there are almost 21 female directors are participating this year. Furthermore, there are 20 world and international premiers and 53 MENA ones.
