The 57th Cairo International Book Fair has surpassed two million visitors in just five days since opening to the public, setting a new attendance record for the region’s largest cultural event.
Organizers said total attendance reached 2,169,701 visitors, including 346,789 on Monday alone, underscoring the fair’s growing public appeal and its status as a major cultural gathering in the Arab world.
The strong turnout reflects rising public interest in reading, culture and knowledge, as well as the fair’s wide-ranging program of literary, intellectual and artistic events, alongside improved visitor services aimed at all age groups.
The fair runs from Jan. 21 to Feb. 3 at Egypt’s International Exhibition and Convention Center in New Cairo under the slogan, “He who stops reading for an hour falls centuries behind.” Romania is this year’s guest of honor, while Nobel laureate Naguib Mahfouz is celebrated as the fair’s featured cultural figure.
