The Swiss Forest Owners Association (ForêtSuisse) has announced that around 1.7 million Christmas trees are sold each year across Switzerland during the holiday season.
According to Swiss Radio “Lac,” Beno Schmid, Head of Communications at the association, confirmed that two-thirds of Swiss consumers prefer Nordmann fir trees, making them by far the most popular choice for Christmas celebrations.
ForêtSuisse reported that Norway spruce and blue spruce also remain in high demand. Before reaching the market, saplings spend about 10 years growing in Christmas tree farms, where they are carefully cultivated by specialists to ensure ideal shape and quality.
Regardless of seed origin, Christmas trees that carry the Swiss Christmas Tree Geographic Indicator, the unified label representing Swiss Christmas tree producers, are guaranteed to meet strict environmental and quality standards set by the association.
The certification assures consumers that the tree has been grown responsibly and in accordance with Swiss sustainability guidelines.
