President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi met with his Chinese counterpart, Xi Jinping, yesterday on the sidelines of the 16th BRICS summit meetings being held in the Russian city of Kazan. Xi Jinping congratulated the president on Egypt’s participation in BRICS for the first time as an active member.
According to the Chinese newspaper China Daily, the Chinese President said that his country is ready to be a “sincere friend” of Egypt and a close partner for common development with Cairo. He pointed out that this year represents the year of partnership between China and Egypt and the tenth anniversary of the establishment of the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries. He said that China supports Egypt strongly to protect its national sovereignty, security and development interests.
