On Monday, Egypt's President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi held a telephone conversation with his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping, according to Presidency spokesman, Bassam Rady.

In a statement, Rady stated that President Sisi, during the talks, congratulated Xi Jinping on the Chinese New Year celebrations, hailing the great momentum that the Egyptian-Chinese relations had gained over the past years within the framework of a comprehensive strategic partnership between the two friendly countries.

Sisi also stressed Egypt's constant keenness to enhance bilateral relations between Egypt and China, especially with regard to attracting new Chinese investment opportunities and making use of China's high expertise in technology in a way that aims to achieve the two countries' common interests in progress and development.

On his part, the Chinese President said that China stands ready to work with Egypt to expand cooperation in such areas as infrastructure construction, production capacity, and science and technology, and lift their comprehensive strategic partnership to new levels.

He added that China supports more Chinese businesses investing in the Middle East country.

Egypt and China have been cooperating closely in fighting the coronavirus pandemic by exchanging medical aid and expertise.

In early February 2020, Egypt provided aid to China to help with its fight against COVID-19, while China later returned the favor by sending three batches of medical aid to the North African country, the latest of which was sent in mid-May.

Since mid-April, Chinese doctors and medical experts have held three video conferences with Egyptian counterparts to share their experience in the prevention and treatment of the novel coronavirus.
