Chinese President Condemns Western Campaign Led by USA to Isolate, Contain Beijing

Chinese President Xi Jinping denounced during a parliamentary session in Beijing a Western campaign led by the United States of America (USA) to "encircle, contain and suppress his country."

On Tuesday morning, the newly-appointed Chinese foreign minister appeared to repeat what the Chinese president said in a more severe tone.

"Western countries, led by the United States, have implemented a policy of containment, encirclement, and suppression against China, which has led to unprecedented challenges to our country's development," Xi said, according to the official Xinhua news agency.

In recent years, contentious issues have multiplied between China and the United States, whether over the issue of the Muslim Uighur minority, the trade imbalance between the two countries, the issue of Taiwan, the file of hegemony in the field of advanced technologies, accusations of espionage, or the Chinese position on the Russian war on Ukraine.

Because of these files, the West in general and the United States in particular imposed sanctions on China, which responded in kind. "China's external development environment has undergone rapid changes, and uncertain and unpredictable factors have increased dramatically," Xi said.
