Beijing announced on Wednesday that it had suspended the consular activities of its embassy in Quito, as well as its consulates, following the Ecuadorian President's declaration of an armed internal conflict.

The Chinese embassy in Ecuador issued a statement in Spanish, which was posted on the social media platform "Weibo" and reported by the "France Presse" agency.

The statement mentioned that the "resumption date of these suspended activities will be announced to the public at the appropriate time."

Ecuador has been experiencing heightened violence and civil unrest, prompting international concerns and leading to this decision by the Chinese embassy.

The move to suspend consular operations underscores the seriousness of the situation in Ecuador, and it remains to be seen how the diplomatic and security landscape in the region will develop.

At least eight people have been killed in this armed internal conflict.
