At the 96th Anniversary of the Founding Of the People’s Liberation Army of China
Distinguished General, representative of the Egyptian Minister of Defense,
Distinguished General, representative of the Chief of Staff of the Egyptian Armed Forces,
Distinguished Minister,
Your Excellencies Ambassadors,
Members of the diplomatic corps,
Ladies and gentlemen,
Friends,
A warm welcome to all of you for joining us today to celebrate the 96th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Liberation Army of China. First of all, please allow me to express warm congratulations on the birthday of Chinese PLA.
On August 1, 1927, under the leadership of the Communist Party of China, the People’s Liberation Army was born in Nanchang city of Jiangxi province in Southern China. Since its founding 96 years ago, the PLA has been committed to loyalty, improving its capabilities, and staying true to its founding mission. The PLA has lived up to the trust placed on it and fulfilled its responsibility. It has secured remarkable achievements in Chinese People’s Liberation cause, Chinese socialist construction and reform, defending Chinese national sovereignty, security and development interests, safeguarding world peace, and promoting human progress.
At present, as global challenges are on the rise, the international community is having higher expectation of the Chinese military. China is now providing more public goods of security. China is the second largest funding contributor to UN peacekeeping operations and the top contributor of peacekeeping personnel among the permanent members of the UN Security Council.
The Chinese military has always been committed to fulfilling its international responsibilities as the military of a major country.
It actively supports international peacekeeping efforts, dispatching 50,000 peacekeepers to 25 UN peacekeeping missions. With these efforts, over 18,000 km of roads and 300 bridges have been newly-built or repaired.
Over 16,000 landmines and other unexploded ordnance have been removed. Over 1.2 million tons of materials and equipments have been transported, with the total travelling distance over 13 million km.
Diagnostic services have been provided to 254,000 people. Chinese peacekeepers have carried out operations in over 20 countries and regions including DR Congo, Libya, Sudan and Lebanon. 16 Chinese peacekeepers have sacrificed their lives during missions. The Chinese military also actively contributes to safeguarding the security of sea lanes. 44 batches of Chinese naval escort fleets have escorted over 7000 Chinese and foreign commercial vessels, half of which were foreign owned.
What’s more, the Chinese military is actively involved in international disaster relief and humanitarian aid efforts, including the search and rescue of the missing MH370 aircraft and the fight against Ebola in West Africa. Chinese hospital ship “Peace Ark” visited 43 countries, providing medical services to over 230,000 people. Since the outbreak of COVID-19, the Chinese military has offered large quantities of anti-epidemic supplies including vaccines and protective gowns to militaries of over 20 countries.
It has won wide acclaim from the international community. Going forward, the Chinese military will devote more to international peacekeeping, merchant ship escorting and disaster relief efforts.
China and Egypt are good friends, good partners and good brothers. The military of both countries have taken it as a sacred responsibility to defend the national sovereignty, security and development interests of its own country and both have enjoyed the full trust and support of its people.
Our two militaries have been deepening cooperation in high-level mutual visits, personnel trainings and equipment technologies with fruitful results. In recent years, multiple high-level officials of the Egyptian armed forces and the Chinese PLA have visited each other, greatly improving the relations between the two militaries. Both our militaries serve as a strong force for the security, stability, peace and development of our own country, and they will both actively contribute to promoting the comprehensive strategic partnership between our two countries.
Facing the new era, China stands ready to work with Egypt under the strategic guidance of the two presidents, synergize the Belt and Road Initiative proposed by China with the 2030 Vision and other development strategies of Egypt, continue to deepen cooperation between our two countries and militaries, and make new and greater contribution to promoting regional and world peace and development and bringing tangible benefits to our two peoples.
