Chinese Ambassador to Egypt Liao Liqiang delivered a keynote address during a reception in Cairo marking the 76th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, attended by senior Egyptian officials, including Minister of Communications and Information Technology Amr Talaat and former Prime Minister Essam Sharaf, alongside diplomats and distinguished guests.
In his remarks, the ambassador reviewed China’s achievements over the past decades, noting that under the leadership of the Communist Party of China, the country has charted its own path to modernization and emerged as a leading global innovator.
He highlighted that during the 14th Five-Year Plan, China’s economy is expected to surpass 35 trillion yuan, with a consistent contribution of over 30% to global economic growth. China, he added, has made historic breakthroughs in artificial intelligence, quantum technology, manned space exploration, and clean energy, while building the world’s largest education, healthcare, and social security systems.
Turning to international affairs, the ambassador stressed China’s active role in global peace and governance. He cited the recent Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit in Tianjin, where President Xi Jinping launched the Global Governance Initiative, aimed at addressing global instability and reforming governance systems in line with multilateralism and international law.
He also recalled the solemn commemoration of the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and World War II.
Strongest-Ever Sino-Egyptian Partnership
The ambassador hailed the current period as the “best stage in the history” of China-Egypt relations, underscoring the strategic leadership of Presidents Xi Jinping and Abdel Fattah El-Sisi. He noted that the two leaders held two summits last year, setting the direction for deeper cooperation, while recent reciprocal visits by the countries’ prime ministers reflected the high level of bilateral ties.
China has remained Egypt’s largest trading partner for 13 consecutive years and one of the most active investors in Egyptian manufacturing. The ambassador pointed to recent milestones, including deeper financial cooperation, the first-ever joint air force drill “Eagles of Civilization 2025,” and collaborative underwater archaeological projects.
He emphasized that the alignment between China’s Belt and Road Initiative and Egypt’s Vision 2030 is driving forward the partnership toward building a “shared future community” between the two nations.
China-Arab Solidarity and Support for Palestine
Expanding the scope to the wider region, the ambassador described China-Arab ties as also being at their strongest historical stage, marked by political trust, economic cooperation, and cultural exchange. He congratulated the Arab League on its 80th anniversary, praising its role in fostering unity and peace in the Middle East.
Addressing the ongoing conflict in Gaza, the ambassador stressed the urgency of an immediate ceasefire, the implementation of Palestinian self-governance, and a firm commitment to the two-state solution. He commended Egypt’s mediation and humanitarian efforts, reaffirming China’s consistent support for the Palestinian people in their pursuit of legitimate rights, and pledged China’s continued efforts to advance peace based on UN resolutions.
Looking Ahead: 70 Years of Diplomatic Relations
The ambassador also looked forward to 2026, which will mark the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Egypt, as well as between China and the Arab and African nations. He announced that China will host the second China-Arab Summit next year, reinforcing Beijing’s commitment to working closely with Egypt and the wider Global South to advance modernization, deepen cooperation, and contribute to global peace and development.
In closing, the ambassador wished prosperity for both China and Egypt, enduring friendship between their peoples, and good health and happiness for all attendees and their families.
