China’s Ministry of Commerce urged the United States on Tuesday to abandon unilateral tariffs, signaling its willingness to hold another round of trade negotiations with the world’s largest economy.
In a statement, the ministry said Beijing would decide in due course whether to adjust its countermeasures in response to the latest U.S. tariff changes, according to Reuters.
The announcement comes as new U.S. tariffs on imported goods took effect Tuesday. The move follows President Donald Trump’s push to reshape his trade agenda after the Supreme Court rejected a broad set of global tariffs previously imposed.
China has repeatedly called for dialogue to resolve trade disputes, emphasizing that unilateral measures undermine global economic stability.
