China's Foreign Ministry issued a stern warning to the United States over the upcoming visit of US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to Taiwan.
The ministry noted that it would take several strong measures to ensure sovereignty if Pelosi visits Taiwan next month.
According to the ministry, the upcoming visit to Taiwan seriously undermines China's sovereignty over its territory, and this will make it take measures to protect that sovereignty.
US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is expected to visit Taiwan next month to show her support for Taipei city against Bejing.
This visit - if it is carried out - in one of the historic visits and is the first by a US House speaker to the country in 25 years.
Previously, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said that the US will continue to support Taiwan if China attacks.
In response to whether Washington will support Taiwan in the military if China attacked it, Blinken confirmed during an interview with “PBS” that the country supports Taiwan militarily and will continue.
He explained that the US “adheres to the one-China policy”, and at the same time, the state is committed to fulfilling its obligations under the Taiwan Relation Act.
The US secretary highlighted that Washington is determined to guarantee that no one tries to unilaterally change the status quo in the Taiwan issue.
