China announced on Wednesday its plans for launching 6G network in 2029.

Last November, it announced the creation of a National 6G Research and Development Promotion Working Group and a Common Expert Group to promote 6G research and development.

Experts predict that 6G will be able to outperform 5G by 10-100 times in performance; and 6G’s peak transmission speed will reach from 100 Gbps to 1 Tbps.

According to CCTV, the 6G technology is still in its infancy and must overcome several technical hurdles in basic research, hardware design, and its environmental impact before the technology becomes commercially available.

On other hand, in May, China Unicom and national telecom equipment producer ZTE agreed to jointly research and develop the 6G network, predicting that the next-generation tech era will start in 2030.

Compared with the current 5G, Vivo Communications’ report believes that the upgrade to 6G lies in dimensions. While current communication tech standards can only provide a connection and a digitization capacity, 6G is to strengthen the two and combine them with intelligent development, which will be able to provide computing, storage, and communication integration services at the same time.

On other hand, Yu Xiaohui the vice president of the China Academy of Information and Communication Technology explained that total of 718,000 5G base stations have been built in the country. In addition, the large-scale construction of 5G networks will take place over the next four years. From 2025 to 2028, a period of improving the mastered technologies is in plans.

Moreover, on November, 519 device models have been launched on the market that supports fifth-generation networks. The Academy of Information and Communications Technology predicts that more than 3,200 5G device models will be available on the market in 2025, which will result in tens of millions of new network subscribers.
