On Tuesday, China expressed strong opposition to the US-reported plan to impose a total ban on US technology exports to Chinese telecoms equipment giant Huawei Technologies Co.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning criticized Washington for "abusing state power" to hinder the Chinese company by "stretching the concept of national security" and described the reported move as "an example of U.S. technological hegemony."
US President Joe Biden's administration has stopped granting US companies export licenses to Huawei as it moves toward a complete ban on the sale of US technology to the Chinese company, according to the Financial Times on Monday.
In May 2019, the administration of Biden's predecessor Donald Trump added Huawei to a list of companies banned from purchasing components and technology from US companies without government approval, citing a national security threat as its equipment could be used for cyber espionage.
However, the US Department of Commerce continued to license some companies to provide technology unrelated to high-speed 5G wireless networks.
Huawei denies the allegations of espionage.
