China's electricity consumption increased by 4.5% in September compared to the same month last year, official data released Thursday showed, signaling continued economic activity growth.
According to the National Energy Administration, total electricity usage reached 888 billion kilowatt-hours during the month.
Industrial sectors drove much of the increase, with primary and secondary industries seeing rises of 7.3% and 5.7% respectively, while intermediate industries recorded a 6.3% increase.
Residential electricity consumption, however, declined by 2.6% year-on-year, totaling 128.7 billion kilowatt-hours.
For the first nine months of 2025, China’s overall electricity usage rose 4.6% to 7.77 trillion kilowatt-hours, reflecting steady energy demand across the country.
