China has successfully launched a new batch of internet satellites into space, marking another step in the country’s expanding low Earth orbit connectivity programme.
A Long March-8A carrier rocket lifted off on Friday morning from the Hainan Commercial Space Launch Site in southern China’s island province of Hainan. The launch took place at 7:26 a.m. Beijing time, according to Xinhua News Agency.
The rocket deployed its payload as planned, placing the satellites into their designated orbit. The mission carried the 17th group of low Earth orbit internet satellites, designed to enhance broadband coverage and support China’s growing satellite-based communications network.
The launch underscores China’s continued investment in space-based internet infrastructure as global competition intensifies over satellite connectivity and next-generation communications technologies.
