China has issued new regulations to standardize pricing practices across internet platforms, in a move aimed at promoting fair competition, encouraging innovation, and supporting the sustainable development of the platform economy, Xinhua Reported.
The rules, released on Saturday, set clearer boundaries for how online platforms set prices, offer discounts, and use pricing algorithms. Authorities said the measures are designed to curb unfair pricing behavior, protect the legitimate rights of consumers and businesses, and ensure a more transparent market environment.
The regulations also seek to balance effective oversight with support for innovation, allowing digital platforms to continue developing new business models while operating within a clearer regulatory framework. Officials emphasized that the new rules are intended to foster long-term, healthy growth rather than restrict the digital economy.
China’s platform economy plays a central role in consumption, employment, and technological innovation. Regulators have in recent years stepped up efforts to refine governance of the sector, focusing on issues such as monopolistic practices, data protection, and algorithmic transparency.
The latest pricing rules form part of broader policy efforts to improve market order, enhance consumer confidence, and create a stable and predictable regulatory environment for internet-based businesses operating in China.
