China announced the detection of a new bird flu infection, H5N6, in a human in Huizhou, Guangdong, Sputnik reported on Saturday.

According to a statement released by the authorities, the percentage of infection is somehow low currently.

However, experts urged all citizens to strictly follow all protective measures, such as avoiding visiting markets that have places for trading alive poultries as a surge in H5N6 and H9N2 infections is expected in winter and spring in China.

Last July, China reported a new case of the mutated strain of bird flu, H5N6; local media agencies cited authorities on Thursday.

The 55-year-old man was hospitalized in a city in southwest Sichuan after he suffered from fever and tested positive for the virus in early July.

Authorities said that local officials had an emergency response and scanned the region; in addition, local reports expressed that the risk of a huge outbreak of the virus among people is still low.

On the other hand, all reports didn’t shed light on how the man contracted the virus or his relationship with poultry as this virus is scientifically transmitted through deal contact with poultry and dead or wild birds.

It is worth mentioning that the World Health Organization announced last week that they recorded 32 cases of H5N6 and 19 deaths in the East Indian Ocean region.
