China has confirmed its first case of a new coronavirus strain that was recently detected in UK.
In a statement, the Chinese Centre for Disease Control (CDC) said that the patient is a 23-year-old woman from Shanghai who arrived from Britain last December 14.
CDC added that Health authorities have carried out contact-tracing.
Earlier Thursday, China approved its first COVID-19 vaccine for general public use, developed by the state-owned pharmaceutical company, “Sinopharm”, according to Russia Today (RT).
The approval announced by the National Medical Products Administration (NMPA).
It came a day after the Beijing Institute of Biological Products, a vaccine development unit at CNBG (China National Biotec Group), announced that the “Sinopharm” vaccine has been proven to be 79.34% effective.
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) this month became the first country to roll out the vaccine to the public.
On December 14, the UK Minister of Health Matt Hancock announced that researchers had discovered a new strain of coronavirus, which could be the reason behind the rapid spread of “Covid-19” infection in southeast Britain.
He added that the initial analysis indicates that the new strain is spreading very quickly, and its ability to infect may increase the capacity of previous infectious strains by 70%.
