The Chinese government has called all residents to restore their essential needs of goods and supplies for emergency, BBC News reported on Tuesday.
Ministry of Commerce did not reveal the real motives behind such a concerning call, however, reports teased the reason could be a near-future outbreak of COVID-19 again which may require new lockdown amid the winter.
In addition, there are another concerns amid the availablity of supplies after latest unstable weather conditions in China damaged crops.
The latest waves of rains and floods destroyed crops in several regions such as Shandong, alongside the recenly-imposed lockdown in major agricultural areas in northeast China that impacted negatively the process of supplying.
So, the prices a number of crops jumped by double such as Spinach.
Therefore, the ministry urged concerned authorities and parties to keep the supply chains stable, and asked residents to avoid panic buying.
The announcement that was posted on the Chinese Twitter equivalent, Weibo, trended the state, in addition, people couldn't control their fears and rushed to markets to serve their needs from rice, oil, and salt.
One of the China-based social network users said: "As soon as this news came out, all the old people near me went crazy panic buying in the supermarket."
