Chilean President Gabriel Boric has urged for immediate reform within the United Nations following the recent US veto against the Emirati resolution to a cease-fire in the Gaza Strip.
Boric took to the platform "X" to express his views, stating, "An urgent structural reform of the United Nations must take place. The world is not as it was in 1945."
The United States recently wielded its veto power in the UN Security Council against a resolution put forth by the United Arab Emirates, which called for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and the unconditional release of all hostages.
While the Unitedabstained from voting, the remaining 13 Security Council members voted in favor of the resolution.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan also called for a comprehensive reform of the UN Security Council on Saturday, emphasizing that the world is larger than the five permanent members of the council, and it is unacceptable for just five countries to control the world's future.
The calls for reform within the United Nations highlight growing global concerns about the effectiveness and fairness of its decision-making processes.
