Charbel Wehbe... Who is Lebanon's New Foreign Minister?

Charbel Wehbe was appointed as Lebanon’s new foreign minister on Monday, replacing Nassif Hitti. Lebanon’s President and prime minister signed decrees accepting the resignation of Foreign Minister Hitti, according to the presidency on its Twitter account.

Lebanese’ newspaper Ennahar published Charbel Wehbe's biography as follows: 

Ambassador Charbel Wehbe was born in Agoura on 15 July 1953, married to Mrs. Dolly Rahim and they have three children: Pierre, Marc, and Richard.

Ambassador Wehbe holds a B.A. in Lebanese Law from the Faculty of Law at the Lebanese University in 1979, a B.A. in Law from the Higher Institute of Wisdom for Law Studies in 1979, in addition to a diploma in Mathematics from the Faculty of Sciences at the Lebanese University in 1974. He is fluent in French, English, and Arabic languages.

When Wehbe retired from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, President Michel Aoun, President of the Republic, chose him as his advisor for diplomatic affairs since October 2017.

Wehbe enjoyed a 42-year old career in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates.

He was the Ambassador of Lebanon to Venezuela between 2007 and 2012, Consul General of Lebanon in Los Angeles - United States of America from 2002 to 2007, Consul General of Lebanon in Montreal - Canada between 1995 and 2000, and before that he was transferred to several diplomatic positions in Lebanon's embassies in each of Cairo - Egypt, The Hague - Netherlands, Berlin - Germany, and at the General Consulate of Lebanon in Toronto - Canada.

He holds the Order of Francisco de Miranda, First Class, from the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.
