Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said that Canada and the United States are negotiating to resolve differences in sectors affected by tariffs, following a "very constructive" call with US President Donald Trump on Monday evening.
Carney told reporters that more meetings are taking place in Washington with the participation of officials including Michael Sabia, Canada's top civil servant, according to Bloomberg.
He added, "We expect to reach agreements in some strategic sectors," pointing out to industries targeted by US tariffs, such as automobiles, steel, and aluminum. However, he warned that reaching an agreement could take time.
He continued, "Don't expect immediate results or quick solutions in these strategic sectors. This is the framework within which our discussions are currently taking place."
