Official results confirm Mark Carney has won the leadership of the Liberal Party, making him the new Prime Minister (PM) of Canada.
According to the official results, Carney, the former central bank governor, emerged victorious in the race to lead the ruling Liberal Party, succeeding Justin Trudeau as Prime Minister.
Carney defeated former Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland, who finished second in the leadership contest, which saw over 150,000 party members casting their votes.
His election comes at a time when Canada is facing the threat of tariffs from U.S. President Donald Trump, as the country approaches federal elections.
Carney, 59, previously managed economic crises as the head of the Bank of Canada. In 2013, he became the first non-British person to lead the Bank of England since its establishment in 1694.
