Carlos Queiroz has announced his departure from the Egyptian national team after failing to reach the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
Egypt’s World Cup dreams were shattered following a penalty shootout defeat to Senegal that saw Mohamed Salah, Ahmed Sayed Zizo, and Mostafa Mohamed all miss from the spot.
After failing to reach the World Cup, Queiroz finds his contract as Egypt’s manager terminated as per a clause in his contract with the EFA that states so.
“It’s time for me to leave the leadership of Egypt to someone else,” Queiroz in the post-match press conference.
“Today my dream was to get Egypt for the fifth time to me to the World Cup, but it was Cissé who qualified with Senegal.
“The game is over. We, unfortunately, failed to reach the World Cup. It’s all over and there’s not a lot of things to say.
“Just some nice words for the players and I congratulate them on the game they played and I also congratulate Senegal after playing a big game. We should not forget that Senegal will represent Africa in the World Cup and we wish them good luck."
