On Saturday, at least 16 people were killed and 36 others wounded in a car bomb explosion in eastern Nangarhar province in Afghanistan, according to local officials.
The spokesman of Nangarhar's governor Ataullah Khogyani confirmed that a car packed with explosive materials blow up at 12:20pm close to GhaniKhail district's building, Nangarhar province, noting that a group of insurgents has stormed the the compound, but Afghan security forces, who were deployed in the area, have fended off the attack.
Health officials said that a number of ambulances have rushed to the scene and transferred the wounded to local hospitals for treatment.
Notably, at least 7 victims of today's explosion in Nangarhar were family members of Bismillah Shinwari, a well-known Afghan cricket umpire who has officiated a number of matches over the past few years.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack so far
