CAPMAS: Marriage Contracts Decline by 2.7%

Initial data released by the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) revealed a rise in porce rates and a decline in marriage over the previous year.

The number of marriage contracts recorded 887, 315 contracts in 2018, compared to 912,606 in 2017.

Marriage observed a drop of about 2.7 percent, down 25,291 cases from the preceding year.

On the level of separation cases, data showed that the number of porce certificates in 2018 was reported at 211,521 cases, compared with 198,269 cases during the year 2017.

In addition, porce witnessed an increase of about 6.7 percent with 13,252 more cases reported.

According to the latest data, 24 percent of married couples in Egypt got porced in the year 2018, compared to 22 percent in the preceding year.

As of January 2019, the number of Egyptian households reached about 24.3 million households. 44.3 percent of them live in urban areas, while 55.7 percent live in rural areas.

The annual observance by the International Day of Families report, being issued on May 15 of each year, was adopted by the United Nations in 1993, draws attention to families and reflects the importance attached by the international community and their role in development.
