Egypt’s exports to Romania grew 8.8% during the first eleven months of 2025, reaching $517 million compared with $475.3 million over the same period in 2024, according to the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS).
Meanwhile, imports from Romania fell by 19.7%, totaling $320.8 million, down from $399.5 million in the previous year. This brought the total bilateral trade volume to $837.8 million, slightly lower than $874.8 million recorded in the same period of 2024.
Egypt’s main exports to Romania included:
Fertilizers: $155.1 million
Fuel and mineral oils: $77.6 million
Iron and steel: $56.1 million
Fruits and vegetables: $50.8 million
Electrical machinery and equipment: $38.8 million
Top imports from Romania were:
Grains: $139.7 million
Tobacco: $37.4 million
Electrical machinery and equipment: $35.2 million
Iron or steel products: $34.2 million
The value of remittances from Egyptians working in Romania rose to $8.2 million in fiscal year 2024/2025, up from $4.5 million the previous year. Conversely, remittances from Romanians working in Egypt increased slightly to $1.6 million.
Romanian investment in Egypt also surged, reaching $7 million in 2024/2025, compared with $900,000 the previous fiscal year.
Egypt’s population is estimated at 108.6 million, while Romania’s stands at 19 million as of January 2026. The Egyptian community in Romania numbered around 4,000 by the end of 2024.
This growth in exports reflects strengthening economic ties as the two countries prepare to celebrate 120 years of diplomatic relations, with Romania serving as guest of honor at the 57th Cairo International Book Fair.
